Understanding Cross-Domain Consent

To understand cross-domain consent, let's compare it to single domain consent. In the case of single domain consent, when you visit different websites, you encounter separate cookie banners and need to provide consent multiple times. This can be inconvenient and repetitive for users. 

However, it's crucial to consider compliance implications and adhere to best practices to ensure your domains remain in compliance with applicable privacy regulations.

Understand the Purpose

Cross-domain consent should only be used when the involved domains serve the same purpose or are closely related in terms of functionality or content. Ensure that the processing activities across these domains align with the legal basis for data collection and meet the requirements of relevant privacy laws.

With cross-domain consent, you provide your consent once, and it carries over seamlessly across multiple websites within the same consent group. To enable cross-domain consent in Secure Privacy, follow the steps below. Please note that we hope you have already added your domains to the domain management panel and completed the onboarding process for all domains.

Install the Secure Privacy

- Make sure you have installed the Secure Privacy script on all domains where you want to enable cross-domain consent. This ensures that the necessary scripts and functionalities are in place to manage consent across your websites.

Access the Settings Page

- In your Secure Privacy account, click on “Account” and navigate to the “Domain Consent Consent” tab. This page contains the configuration options for consent groups.

Create new Cross Domain Consent Group

- First, a consent group has to be created by click the “ADD NEW” button, add your group name in the popup.

- Click on the “Domains” dropdown, select domains where you want to enable cross-domain consent. You may use the “search” input field to locate the required domains.

Save && Apply the Changes 

- Once you have added desired domains to the Domain Consent Group, click “Save” to apply the changes. This action enables cross-domain consent for these domains.

- By assigning the same consent group name to the applicable domains, you enable cross-domain consent. This ensures that users only need to provide consent once, enhancing their browsing experience throughout the entire purchasing process.

Note: As indicated in the beginning of this article - enabling cross domain consent may cause your domains to become in non-compliance. Cross domain consent allows you to record the same consent for multiple domains without showing a new cookie banners. Use it only when the domains are used to serve the same purpose, and you have the right legal basis.
