Activating 3D Secure for Your Card

Introduction
At Secure Privacy, we aim to provide secure payment experiences through Stripe, our payment gateway. Sometimes, your transaction may require 3D Secure (3DS) authentication, which is managed by your card issuer or a security provider. This step enhances payment security and often requires action from you as the cardholder to activate it.

3D Secure (3DS) is a security protocol designed to enhance the safety of online credit and debit card transactions by adding an extra layer of authentication. Introduced by Visa as "Verified by Visa" in 2001, it has since been adopted by other major card networks, such as Mastercard (SecureCode), American Express (SafeKey), and JCB (J/Secure). The name "3D Secure" refers to the three domains involved in the process:
- Acquirer Domain: The bank and merchant receiving the payment.
- Issuer Domain: The cardholder's bank.
- Interoperability Domain: The infrastructure enabling secure communication between the acquirer and issuer, such as the payment gateway.
When a customer initiates an online transaction, they are prompted to verify their identity through methods like one-time passwords (OTPs), biometrics, or app-based authentication. This ensures that only the rightful cardholder can authorize the payment, reducing fraud and unauthorized transactions.

Because 3D Secure activation is outside the control of Secure Privacy or Stripe, you’ll need to follow country-specific processes. Below is a guide on activating 3D Secure for your card in India, the United States, and European countries, organized alphabetically for convenience.
