Overview
Custom controls give our customers the flexibility to tailor their DSAR forms so end users only see and complete fields relevant to their specific request. This ability to customize the form and response templates helps align the DSAR process with the organisation’s unique workflows and branding. The result is a cleaner, more user‑friendly experience that streamlines data collection and builds trust by demonstrating professionalism and transparency.
This article explains how to customize the data subject access request form in Secure Privacy.
- Navigate to the Templates tab: After logging in to your Secure Privacy dashboard, navigate to Templates from the top navigation bar. This tab lists all available privacy templates for different regions.
- Select the desired Template: Scroll through the list of templates until you find the required template. Head over to its settings, which show various configuration options in a side panel.
- Go to the Data Request Form: Inside the given template, locate the left‑side panel and click Data request form. This section controls the user‑facing form visitors will use to request access to or removal of their data.
- Enter Edit Mode: At the top‑right of the preview, click Edit. The form editor opens, enabling you to modify existing fields and add new ones. Ensure the toggle for “Enable data request form” is on (green). Navigate to the Texttab
- Add Custom Control: Within the Text tab, scroll down and click + Add controland choose the desired control. This inserts the respective control where you can fulfill the specific requirements with this control.
- Organize Form Fields: You can drag and drop fields to rearrange them. This helps you position your text and input controls in a logical/required order. If you need to delete a control, hover over it and click the trash icon.
- Save Your Changes: When you’re satisfied with the form, click Save in the top‑right corner of the editor.
Secure Privacy applies your changes and updates the live data request form on your site.
Example: Adding a DSAR Custom Control
To illustrate how custom controls work, let’s walk through adding a “Right to Erase” field to collect a visitor’s email address:
- In edit mode, click + Add control and choose Text as the input type.
- In the settings panel:
- Set Label to “Right to Erase.”
- Set Input type to Text.
- Enter “enter your email address” as the placeholder.
- Ensure Is required is enabled if you need this field to be mandatory.
- Set Label to “Right to Erase.”
